A musician recognized by his peers, pianist Romain Descharmes stands out as well in concert with orchestra as in recital or in chamber music.

In 2006, he was awarded the First Grand Prize at the Dublin International Competition, which led him to perform in recital on several prestigious stages: Carnegie Hall in New York, Wigmore Hall in London, Forbidden City Hall in Beijing... And since his very notable debut with the Orchester de Paris, he has established himself as a new value in French piano.

He was then invited for several series of concerts with the Orchester de Paris, the Orchesters National de Lyon, National du Capitole de Toulouse, National d'Ile-de-France, Bordeaux Aquitaine,  the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra, the Quebec Symphony Orchestra, the Malmö Symphony Orchestra, the Nancy Opera…

He is the guest of festivals such as Piano aux Jacobins, La Roque d'Anthéron, Nancyphonies, Colmar, Sceaux, Radio France Montpellier, Essouira, Cervantino in Mexico, Arties in India and also gives concerts at the Théâtre du Châtelet, Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord, Salle Cortot in Paris, Salle Poirel in Nancy, at the Lille Opera, at the Queen Elisabeth Musical Chapel. He also performed at the Berlin Philharmonie with the French Youth Orchestra as part of the Young Euro Classic festival.

Romain Descharmes is a pianist sought after as a chamber musician for his listening skills, his sensitivity and his broad knowledge of the repertoire which ranges from sonatas to large groups. He is part of the Talweg Trio alongside Sébastien Surel and Eric-Maria Couturier and performs regularly with artists such as the Quatuor Ebène, Diotima et Danel, Sarah Nemtanu, Pierre Fouchenneret, Henri Demarquette, François Salque, Lise Berthaud.

An eclectic musician, he is part of the Mosalini-Terruggi cuarteto, and also plays with Quai N°5 with whom he recorded two albums for Decca-Universal and has performed on the stages of the largest Parisian venues (the Bataclan, the Cigale , the European, the Café de la Danse).

Romain Descharmes' discography - widely praised by critics - includes, among others, solo recordings by Brahms, Ravel, Fauré & Scriabin, the complete Beethoven sonatas for piano and violin with Pierre Fouchenneret. As part of his ongoing collaboration with the Palazetto Bru Zane, he recorded the Dubois Sonata as well as Marie Jaëll's First Concerto with the Lille National Orchestra. He also recorded the complete works for piano and orchestra of Saint-Saëns with the Malmö Symfoni Orchestra.

At the same time, very involved in pedagogy and transmission, he is a piano teacher at the CRR in Paris and is regularly invited to the juries of various international competitions (A. Casagrande in Italy, Ecole Normale de musique de Paris, Mayenne, Lagny, etc.)
