MARC-ANTOINE
CELLO
NOVEL

CRD of Saint-Germain-en-Laye

After training with Martine Bailly, Philippe Muller, and Xavier Gagnepain, Marc-Antoine Novel studied with Anne Gastinel at the CNSMD in Lyon, where he earned his Master's degree in cello with highest honors. He has participated in numerous masterclasses with other renowned teachers, such as Leonid Gorokhov at the Nice International Summer Academy, and Marc Coppey at the Ravel Academy.

His passion for orchestral music led him to play with renowned ensembles, such as the Orchestre de Paris as an academy member, and the Orchestre Colonne as a guest musician. He also served as principal cellist of the Orchestre des Lauréats du Conservatoire for three years, and was a member of the Orchestre de Chambre d'Ariège, directed by violinist Marie Cantagrill. In addition, he is interested in chamber music, which he performs in a duo with pianist Philippe Hattat at numerous festivals, including Musique aux Mines, ArtenetrA in Deux-Sèvres, and the Nocturnes de Laude series. Finally, he has played in a piano-violin-cello trio with several ensembles in very diverse settings, such as the Copernic Synagogue, the Paris Chamber Music Centre, concerts organised by the Klangperipherie association in Germany and Austria, etc.

A curious and eclectic musician, Marc-Antoine is equally drawn to playing the cello and the more theoretical aspects of music. This led him to pursue a degree in composition, a discipline in which he holds a Master's degree from the Paris Conservatory (CNSMD). At the same institution, he also studied conducting with George Pehlivanian and pedagogy through the training for the French teaching certificate (Certificat d'Aptitude de professeur de musique), which he obtained in 2021. He currently teaches cello at the Saint-Germain-en-Laye Regional Conservatory.
