Patrick Langot has pursued a dual career on the baroque and modern cello. As a recitalist (Piazzolla's Grand Tango, world premieres, concertos by Haydn, CPE Bach, Vivaldi, Porpora, etc.) and soloist (Festival International de Beauvais, Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse, Le Quartz de Brest, Paris Salle Cortot, Abbaye de Royaumont, etc.), he is very active.
His extensive discography (France Musique Choice, Diapasons Découverte, France Musique Critics' Tribune Reference Version, CHOCS Classica, etc.) includes more than thirty works ranging from the Baroque to the 21st century. His first solo CD, Præludio, recorded on three cellos, has been highly acclaimed by the critics. He has also recorded Benoît Menut's chamber music for Harmonia Mundi.
His new CD Alas with violinist Alexis Cardenas and the Orchestre de Lutetia conducted by Alejandro Sandler was released by Évidence Classics in 2024, featuring two new works for solo and orchestra by Gabriel Sivak and Gerardo di Giusto.
In 1999 he founded the Syntonia Quintet with pianist Romain David, with whom he won the Tina Moroni Prize at the Florence International Competition, played at numerous festivals and performed for Arte. His chamber music partners include the sopranos Maya Villanueva and Élodie Fonnard, the pianists Romain David, Alain Planès and Daria Fadeeva, the cellists Emmanuelle Bertrand and Agnès Vesterman and the violinist Stéphanie Moraly, among others. He is one of the few cellists to play Schubert's Sonata for Arpeggione on the instrument of the same name.
Patrick is a passionate advocate of the music of the composers of our time. Whether solo or with Syntonia, he has worked with Édith Canat de Chizy, Camille Pépin and Henri Dutilleux, and has given the first performances of works by Suzanne Giraud, Nicolas Bacri, Pierre Chépélov and Olivier Greif, Alejandro Iglesias Rossi, Olivier Calmel. He has commissioned works by Régis Campo, Philippe Forget, Gerardo di Giusto, Benoît Menut, Tôn-Thât Tiêt, Graciane Finzi, Gabriel Sivak and Grégoire Letouvet, among others.
He has performed as solo cellist with numerous period ensembles: Les Musiciens du Louvre (Marc Minkowski), Orfeo 55 (Nathalie Stutzmann), Il Caravaggio (Camille Delaforge), Les Musiciens de Saint Julien (François Lazarevitch)...
He is co-artistic director of the Festival Autrement Classique in Briare from 2023.
Former student of Eva Descaves, Erwan Fauré, Jean-Marie Gamard and Henri Demarquette, he is a graduate of the CNSM in Paris (1st prize in cello and chamber music) and the CRR in Paris (1st prize in early music), he is a Fondation de France and Fondation Royaumont laureate, and a resident of the Fondation Singer-Polignac with various ensembles.
