Ruth Rosique, Spanish soprano, stands out for the diversity and scope of her repertoire. An accomplished musician, clarinetist and pianist by training, she discovered singing at the age of 15 and never stopped exploring all the facets of her art.

From Gregorian chant to contemporary creation, from the operas of Monteverdi to those of Britten or Henze, from unjustly neglected baroque composers to masterpieces by Mozart or bel canto, from German lied to Zarzuela, she tackles the whole repertoire with enthusiasm, rigor and sincerity that have conquered the public and made her an essential artist on the great Spanish and international stages.

 

A Mozartian at heart, she sang the main roles of Don Giovanni, The Magic Flute, The Marriage of Figaro, The Abduction from the Seraglio or the Finta Giardiniera.

 

It has also been heard in several operas by Rossini, including The Silk Scale, Voyage to Reims and Le Turque in Italie.

 

Passionate about baroque music, she has also sung the main roles in Il Combattimento di Tancredo e Clorinda and L ́incoronazione di Poppea by Monteverdi, L ́Olimpiade by Galuppi, Orfeo and Euridice by Gluck, Ottavia Restituita and Il Prigionier Superbo by Pergolesi, Andromeda Liberata and Atenaide by Vivaldi.

Her ability to appropriate many roles of all styles also allowed her to perform in Werther by Massenet (Sophie), Romeo and Juliet by Gounod (Juliette), La Boheme by Puccini (Musetta), La Sonnambula by Bellini, Lakmé by Delibes, Falstaff by Verdi (Nanetta), Die Frau ohne Schatten by Richard Strauss, L'Enfant et les Sortilèges by Ravel, Orphèe aux Enfers by Offenbach, The Rape of Lucretia by Britten, Der Kaiser von Atlantis by Ullman, Die sieben Todsünden by Weill, Moses und Aaron and Pierrot Lunaire by Schöenberg, Elegy for Young Lovers by Henze.

 

It has been heard in most of the major Spanish theaters (Liceo in Barcelona, ​​Real in Madrid, Palau de les Arts in Valencia, the Maestranza in Seville...), but also at Carnegie Hall in New York at the opera of Tokyo or at the National Theater of Bogota in Colombia. She recently made a recording for Naïve with the Venice Baroque Orchestra, followed by a European tour which took her to the Théâtre des Champs Elysées in Paris, to the Queen Elisabeth Hall in London, to Santa Cecilia in Rome, to the Beaux Arts in Brussels, in Athens and in the auditorium of Dijon. She also contributed to the creation of "La fuga in maschera", an opera by Spontini rediscovered after 200 years of oblivion, at the Jesi Festival and at the San Carlo in Naples.

 

In Italy, she sang in such prestigious theaters as the Teatro de La Fenice in Venice, at the Regio Theater in Parma alongside José Carreras, at the Maggio Fiorentino Theater in Florence, or at the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona. She also participates in many festivals.

Among the conductors under whose direction she has sung are Michel Plasson, Jeffrey Tate, Pinchas Steinberg, Jesus López Cobos, Helmuth Rilling, Christopher Hogwood, Robert King, Christophe Coin, Gustav Kuhn, Paul Goodwin, Jean Claude Malgoire, Christophe Rousset, Josep Pons, Leopold Hager, Yves Abel or Fabio Luisi.

His discography includes more than 28 recordings on both CD and DVD, published for the labels EMI, Naïve, Enchiriadis, Odeon, Dynamic...

 

Last facet of this versatile artist, the Zarzuela holds an important place in the repertoire of Ruth Rosique. She is a recognized and admired interpreter and she has played more than twenty titles of this “Spanish operetta”.

 

Andalusian by adoption, born in Barcelona, ​​Ruth Rosique studied in the conservatories of Cádiz, Guadalajara, in Valencia, with teachers like Pilar Sáez, Angeles Chamorro and Ana Luisa Chova. She perfected herself with personalities like Victoria de los Ángeles, Donald Sultzen, Emma Kirkby, Kamal Khan or Elena Obraztsova.

 

Graduated with a Master's degree in Musical Interpretation and Research from the International University of Valencia, Ruth Rosique teaches vocal technique and chamber music in various international festivals.
